Homily: 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time



This weekend we are cautioned to, “Be prepared for at an hour you do not expect the Son of Man will come.”  But if our only concern in life is all about just focusing on what we need to do in order to get into heaven, we are missing the whole point of the entire Gospel.

For the Divine Knock on the door just doesn’t happen before we take our last breath, rather it happens all the time – in unexpected ways with unexpected people. So if we cannot recognize the face of God here and now…how we will recognize that Presence when we die?

Homily: 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time


“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Really?  We have to love those that we fear?  Those who are different from us? The ones who are strangers?

In the past few weeks there has been much written about the plight of the refugees.  Politics aside, as Christians, we are called to live the Gospel…which is much harder than reading or preaching about it.  So what does Jesus say in the Beatitudes?  And how can Pope Francis, Brian McLaren and Leonardo DaVinci add some light on this hotly debated subject?
